Hi all,
New to the site but hoping to ask some basic questions. I've just bought a small flock of pedigree Southdowns and need to come up with a name for my flock going forward. Are there any restrictions on what I can use? Ideally, I was hoping to use the name of the town I live in but are they likely to accept this?

According to the society rules you get to choose the name as long as it hasn't been used before. So I guess you can choose whatever you like (rule 3):

Bear in mind that the sheep have to live with it forever though. :)

couldn't you choose the name of your holding? A lot of people do.

My own flock of Southdowns is named after the farm, many folks choose the name of their village or the name of their existing cattle or pig herd..

I dreamed the name of ours. Seriously.

Thanks guys - think I'm going for Ironoak as I wanted something Sussex based and my house has a Welsh name!

Cool!
You didn't say you were in Sussex though. Is "Downsouth Southdowns" already taken? ;D

We had same problem but decided to go down a Latin route
As me and my pal are gingers
We decided to go
Gingiberi (ginger) ryelands has a bit of a ring to it

Sounds good
I used our farm name,
I think something that rolls off the tongue and sounds right with the intended suffix (?) can't go wrong. Ironoak sounds great, good and strong, - good strong healthy flock :).
