Oh I wish that I lived near you I would love to help butcher my own pigs and make sausages and bacon. I have promised myself that next time I  will have a go at making bacon and sausages, although just a few as I am terrified of making a mess of it,

Maybe I should think about organising sausage and bacon making holidays  :pig:  :pig:

Don't be afraid of making a mess of it Anne, it's definitely worth trying.

Hello you lasses I agree its easy but can be hard work winding a hand mincer and sausage stuffer ;D Don't dispair.HFW has a very good instruction on line.Get the pig taken to the abattoir and killed.Get it all back except the squeal :D.Then follow the instructions So you may not have butcher quality knives and make the edges of your cuts a bit jagged your saw if you buy a brand new saw for wood from the Big Orange shed will make the same job as a propper butchers saw a butchers meat saw is £59:99p at Amazon a jack saw is under a tenner in the Orange Shed. When you have had a go and find you can do it then buy some professional tools.and a power grinder. The art of making sausages all the same length and linking needs practice but its not difficult.Knowing how to get the best cut for most ham.The best place to cut for chops etc how to make the things with the offal.Go on lass have a go The meat isn't going to waste is it it may not look professional but it will taste the same :D :pig: :farmer:

Daisysmum, buy some cheap and nasty stuff from the supermarket and practice on that.  By the time you do your own you will be an "expert".

That's a really good idea Hilarysmum.....Wish I'd thought of that!  Never mind, there were lots of 'rejects' for my boys after my first attempts....They didn't seem to mind what shape they were.   :) :) :)
