Title: Finally, we have bought our first sheep...
Post by: twizzel on August 09, 2016, 12:38:59 pm
After many years of raising tame lambs, we have bought our first small flock of ewes. 8 lleyn x texel shearlings, they are settling in well and will go to a poll dorset ram in early autumn for lambing late feb/early march. Or that's the current plan  ;D  The short one on the left has already been named Stumpy  :roflanim:  We are keeping a tame ewe lamb so will have 9 to lamb next spring- the ewe lamb is fit to kill now so hopefully will go to the ram as well. They have been used to a dog and not had any cake, so working on taming them up at the moment but I think they will come around sooner or later (I hope  :roflanim: )

Congratulations   Must be something in the air, I'm ending the day with five times as many sheep as I started it after a trip to the mart this morning  :)

Thanks! I'm pleased with them. I wanted something easy to lamb for their first lambing, a friend has a poll dorset available and I like that breed, some of our tame lambs are dorset mule crosses and produce a nice long lean carcass that is slightly slower growing to the big frame Texel lambs that go over fat very easily. I am excited to see what the cross brings :)
