Title: Hay fever of Volcanic Dust fever!!!
Post by: Sandy on May 17, 2010, 09:21:50 am
Just wondering if anyone else is having similar health problems? I used to suffer a lot from allergy related things in Leicestershire due to pollution and being situated in a valley and all the traffic in the city where I worked made me constantly bunged up, so when I moved I did notice that I hardly get any form of allergy but just lately and yesterday, my eyes were streaming and my chest a bit tight and I started to get a funny throat and so did my partner, he said he had the start of a soar throat but when we came back inside the throat cleared up!! Now I just have runny eyes!!! I am now wondering is it to do with the volcanic dust? and did any one else find it bad yesterday especially?

We have both been sneezing excessively. don't know why but the other thing is dust in the house. If god had meant me to be a cleaner he would have made me love dusters! there is a thin film over everything again! I am leaving it until someone writes "clean me" in it. although I might dust the T.v. so we can see what we are supposed to be watching

YES!
both me and my husband have been really suffering for a good few weeks now
I've had hayfever before but never as bad, got eyedrops and loratadine tablets from doctors for first time ever.
my throat is really sore & had a "chesty cough" for ages

someone told me that the tree pollen is late (from cold weather) & everything else is catching up, so allergies are worse
dont know if that s true....

It makes me look so puffed up and tiered!!! today was not so bad but has got worse as the day went on!! Just stuffed up now. I am not sure what I used to take that was OK and what makes me sleepy, I have got some tablets but often find they are a bit too strong and make me have a very dry mouth. I used to travel around Leicestershire as a part of my job helping people back to work, some homeless, some drug or alcohol misuser's, some ex offenders etc, anyway, I picked up one man who had been on a alcohol dependency programme and thought before I drove I had better take a hayfever tablet as I was driving around all the fields and I was suffering, so I popped in the tablet and by the time I got the the mans interview for a college course I sounded and looked like the heavy drinker, I could hardy get my words out and had to explain!! I  bet they did not believe me at all!! and I had to drive home but the major sleepiness was subsiding a bit!!! Never want to be like that again unless it's intended ;)

I am on Xyzal - levo cetirizene.  Absolutely no sleepiness at all, no sneezing, no stuffed up nose, no watery eyes.  But on one a day for the rest of my life.

My hayfever has been worse this year. It used to be my eyes would swell up and water only about 2 times a year, but I've already had that this year for about 3 weekends. I hate hayfever.

Woman sneezing from pollen
Simple self-help

● Smear a little dab of Vaseline just inside your nostrils. Any pollen entering your nose will stick before it can cause irritation.

● Wear wraparound sunglasses to prevent allergens entering the eyes.

● Keep all windows closed, including those in your car, and on public transport

● Get undressed before you enter your bedroom, so that any pollen stays on your clothes

● Wash your hair before going to bed. Pollen sticks to your hair and will irritate you during the night

● If you dry your washing outdoors, hang it out mid-morning and bring it in before the early evening, to keep pollen contamination to a minimum

I react to the tree pollen.  I notice it more when riding the horses, being higher up!!  Makes my eyes run, nose run, and I start sneezing.  Thankfully, do not actually get hay fever - which living in the middle of a field, is a huge relief!!  once the trees have been out a while, I do improve.

I was sooooooooooooooooooooo sleepy after the tablet I took in the morning that I dare not take anymore!!! All I wanted to do was eat sweets and sleep, I could hardly talk and for me that is very rare ::) I am not too sure what it is that gets me going but it's usualy mold spores!!! I worked in an old building and used to suffer very badly, just like I had a constant cold...not been as bad as that since!!!! I shall try some other drug when I next feel as bad!!!!

Sandy the tablets I gave you won't make you sleepy, if they do there's something wrong.

I shall give them a go when I don't have too much to do, I am allergic to stuff but don't get too bad effects but sometimes I want to feel good so will take a tab then.....I also think/know I am more sensitive sometimes than others so Daveravey (nice to meet your brood, you should be proud of them!!) you may be less sensitive to things this year. I had a diverted septum and had to have it sorted some years ago and before I did, my nose would liturlay throb at loads of things, perfumes, the newspaper, flowers, never had that sensation since but it was due to my nose being damaged!!! Maybe I should do the Michel Jackson Mask thing???

I was told by my consultant at the time to take one a day for a week to see if it alleviated the symptoms, as it built up over tiime - perhaps you should try that.  I gave you enough to do that.

Odd! I've had hayfever since I was 13ish  (now 39)  and it's not as bad this year as it usually is - yet.

I find that treating symptomatically works better than prescription antihistamines. i.e. nasal spray to stop the drippy nose and optrex type stuff for itchy eyes. I find that antihistamines just make me feel bunged up and lethargic.
