Hey guys we've had a really good sucess with our batch of bantam dominiques. However one hatched about 20 mins ago and is still attached to its egg by a cord. The cord is attached to the chick at its vent, and at the vent there is a red little bob.Could this possilby be a prolapse? All the other chicks have hatched with no problems.Rhis one seems ok and is running around with egg following and is quite vocal. Any ideas???

leave it well alone. the cord should break by itself. the swelling should hopefully go down. but if not then you will need to cull it. if after the cord has snapped its mobile it should be ok.
-
Yes, I agree - don't try and pull the cord. Hopefully it will snap itself, and the chick will be fine. If its cheeping, it must be strong enough, so fingers crossed all will be well.

The cord snapped quite near the vent which i think is lucky cause i envisaged the cord getting wrapepd around the leg and cutting off blood circulation. Its chirping, but in all honesty i havent got high hopes for it. It's toes look slightly twisted aswell. Will provide it with good care as normal and hope for the best,I'm just going to let nature take its coarse. Thanks for everyones advice, sorry for keep asking questions lol

No problem with asking questions on here, Kier - that's what TAS forum is for! Hope the chick improves. You've done very well so far.

thanks very much, keeping fingers crossed and will update tonight when i know more

Pleased the cord snapped ok. Such a shame your first hatch was not problem free, but now you have faced this, you will be more confident next time. Chicks will be wobbly the first day or two, but soon gather strength - fingers crossed for your little one.

Hope it proves you wrong, fingers crossed.

some do. but don't leave it for more than a day if its not standing by then be kind to it. you do get the odd one that does not make it. mainly the ones that need help to hatch. it can take them a number of days to die if left to nature..
