Title: Poor Old Hen
Post by: sabrina on July 12, 2016, 03:22:07 pm
One of my old girls went broody on 2 eggs so I left her. Unknow to me two of the younger girls managed to lay another 2 eggs when, I don't know. The first 2 eggs were not fertile and she chucked them out at the weekend. As she has been quite lively I thought she would be joining the others again but she is still sitting tight. I am pretty sure she is wasting her time as nothing has ever hatched with the cockerel we have. I feel sorry for her. She has been sitting for 24 days now. Should I just take the eggs away from her. Would she know if chicks were in them ?

Can you candle them to see if they are fertile?

Could do if I can get her off them without being attacked.
