Title: Poorly hen
Post by: Celli on July 08, 2016, 10:45:30 am
One of my hens ( about a year old ) is really rather poorly this morning, yesterday she was her normal greedy self, jumping up at the fence for treats and running about.
This morning she is dull, listless, and most worrying not interested in food at all, she also has a white/ pale yellow diahorrea and a very mucky vent which is unusual for her.
I found, what looks to me like some egg yolk on the coop floor where she normall roosts, my other hens have all laid a normal egg today.
She was still damned difficult to catch, so not on deaths door.
She has a vet appointment this afternoon but just wondering if anyone has a clue what could be wrong ?.

Have you wormed them recently? That can cause yellow foamy poop.  No idea otherwise.  Good luck.  I lost one this morning - she was listless and hunched yesterday, but still eating and drinking like yours difficult to catch, this morning dead. She was walking funny yesterday so I suspected being eggbound, but I couldn't bring myself to check. I'm not sure she was still laying anyway as she was about 6

They'd been wormed just three weeks ago.
Took her to the vet on Friday and she had a broken egg inside, once the remainder of the shell was removed she perked right up and is back to normal, although hasn't laid an egg since so I'll need to keep an eye on that.
Knowing my luck she'll never lay again and I'll have another freeloader on my hands  :innocent:
