Title: Green Woodpeckers
Post by: zwartbles on July 08, 2016, 07:59:03 am
Young green woodpeckers are now out and about. They spend as much time finding insects on the ground as they do in the trees!!

How lovely.  I'm amazed you have green woodpeckers - we've never seen them here all the time we've lived here, and I assumed they didn't occur in this area.

We have taken great delight in watching a little family of Dad, Mum and two greater spotted woodpeckers around our garden and learning how to use the bird feeder.  Isn't it a lovely time of year

It is lovely to watch all the young birds.

Never seen a green woodpecker here either ... just the great spotted.

We are fortunate here in Norfolk to have a really wide variety of birdlife. I will post more pics as available ;D .

Surprised if you really don't have any ... very few areas of country don't have any ... do you put out food for wild birds?

The woodpeckers spend ages on our 'lawn' pecking at the ants nests.  And there is a spotted woodpecker nest in a dead branch of an overgrown willow.  When your garden is not very tidy, there seems to be a lot more wildlife :D . Must try to take more photos.
