Title: Clik pour on and where cheapest to buy
Post by: Luckyescape on July 04, 2016, 10:38:49 am
I have only two sheep who will require Clik once more this year and just don't know where is selling the small bottles as I dont need the larger ones.

Do I need to buy the seringe as well or does it come with the bottle?
Thanks in advance x

If I only had 2 sheep I would be looking at something like barrier blowfly repel

Whereabouts are you?  There must be somebody on here who'd sort you out with a couple of doses of something suitable?

With only 2 sheep, it's pretty easy just to check them each day?
Or get some louse powder. Barrier do a big tub for about £13. It contains Permethrin, as does Spot On - which also deters/ kills blowfly.

I'm in Brentwood Essex and may sound easy to check on just two sheep but they are in a 2 acre field and are now weary of me as I keep catching to fly spray them lol. I want to be able to rest assured that they are 80% safe from flys especially if I need to go away for a few days and leave them with just friend making sure they are safe in their field still with water.

Cheapest I could find was on wormers.co.uk We were going to use a plant spray bottle but it only fired in a jet rather than a fan so we used a well rinsed out old dettol table spray bottle. No issues so far  :fc:

I use a plant spray bottle as well. If you spend a bit of time adjusting the nozzle you can get quite a wide spray.

So how do you know how much to apply?

The Clik will eventually spread itself around the fleece even if you don't manage an even spray.  If you Clik them once the fleece is about 1cm long it should be effective for the 16 weeks until the flies die out in Autumn.  I just run a line along the spine, across the shoulders and the tail head - the amount depends on the size of the sheep.

Love clik n clikzen, wouldn't be able to rest easy without them.  The weather is also with us, theres no way those green uns can fly in this....     We still wait for the shearer to call.

So how do you know how much to apply?

I filled the spray bottle with water and did test squirts into a measuring cup, 10 of my sprays = x mls. Then we estimated sheep weight (I so wish we had scales), checked the back of the bottle for dosage rates and sprayed the sheep with the equivalent number of sprays to dosage mls.

It wasn't perfect as the clik is thicker than water so doesn't move through the spray head as well. We calculated how much we would need for all the sheep, measured out that amount of water into the spray bottle and made a mark on the bottle. Then we emptied the water and filled to the mark (a little over) with clik. We has excess left over though which is how I know that the clik didn't come through as easy as water.
