Title: slaughter house for wild boar
Post by: Jimmy 84 on June 22, 2016, 09:16:26 pm
Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a slaughterhouse in east Anglia that will take my wild boar alive. I know this is a long shot but I have to ask.

Thanks in advance

Jimmy

Best you google abattoirs and 'phone them and ask. I would imagine a lot of them would take them.

Even though they require a dangerous animals licence to keep (i believe??)

We had a few crossbred porkers that had a bit of wild boar in them and the vet at the abattoir we use was quite keen that they weren't actually wild boar as they couldn't take them. Given the hoops you'd have to jump through in order to keep them in the first place I'd have thought sorting out slaughtering etc would be done at the planning stage? And could be a make or break decision as to whether to keep them or not.

Oh my. We have three GO'S wild board cross boys to take on Monday and I had no idea it might be a problem.
How did you prove they were not wild boar?

It won't be a problem if they are crosses. The concern was only when she first saw them in the trailer and she was happy once she'd had a proper look and we'd spoken to her.

Thanks for your replys, I did have a slaughterhouse that agreed to take the boar when I first obtained my DWA licence but I think when they agreed this they thought the boar were cross breeds not the real deal so have since backed out and left me in a muddle.

That is a bit of a nightmare. Hope you find somewhere not too far away.

Still no luck yet. I'm in the process of having a part of my site approved by the FSA to on farm slaughter. Not what I wanted to be doing but it's looking like the only option at the moment.
