Indeed. I am thinking of buying some this year or next, depends if I can afford them or not, but I will definately be talking to the breeder.
-
or what about a Kyrgyz-ala with its brindled coat?
-
Just to be a bit controversial, why the urge to buy non native breeds when we have lots of good native beef cattle? :innocent:
-
Because I know a lot of guys who breed native cattle for meat and I am wanting to try something different and unusual. Not sure I can afford em though, but will keep for future reference ;D They're beautys though aren't they?

Do all the horns go up or is a bit hit and miss?

My Dad had a saying. Well, actually, he had a gazillion sayings, but the one that came to mind here is,
Sell to the classes, eat with the masses
Sell to the masses, eat with the classes
Meaning, selling a rarity or niche product for a premium, you still have only a niche market, so although each item costs more, overall you cannot make big bucks.
Whereas there's always a market for a mainstream product, so if you get everything else right, it's possible to sell more and therefore make more money,
Not always directly applicable to farming, of course. But perhaps more so than one might think at first glance ;)

They do look very pretty, but they are quite small. Correctly called Mirandaise, as they are local to the town of Mirande in the Southwest of the Gers. By co-incidence the farm next door to the house we are considering buying keeps them, together with Black Gasconne pigs.

They look great.
I like this list of less common cows http://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/animals/stories/not-your-average-cow-10-most-exceptional-cattle-breeds (http://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/animals/stories/not-your-average-cow-10-most-exceptional-cattle-breeds)
