Title: Black Orpington chicks
Post by: cairnhill on May 03, 2010, 07:36:53 pm
Just hatched out 6 Black Orp chicks.  One hatched a day before the others and seems unable to stand so doubtful if it will survive.  Only second time I have hatched chicks so wondered if I have done something wrong.

I would say to give him some more time, perhaps he hatched just that wee bit too soon. If he is still not standing in 24 hours then there is a problem I would say and no you have not done anything wrong. Saying that I have only hatched ducks and geese before. Hope all goes well.

Put him on a bit of rough towelling or an old rough tea-towel. This will give him something to grip. It's worked for me with straddle-legged chicks.
