Title: Diagnosing lamb poo problem!

tup lamb three weeks old tomorrow who has pulled through from being unwell twice already - attended by vet - I had given duphamox LA then vet gave Synulox which he had for 5 days ending about a week ago.  Since then [size=78%]was picking up a bit but today has loose poo - colour like dirty mustard (not proper yellow and not brown either).  Drinking from mum and doing ok but could be brighter.    Have given 10ml live yoghurt meantime (not sure how much to give?). Temp was 38.5 last time I checked  (don't know why font has got smaller!)[/size]



Any help with diagnosis or tips for what next

As he's had so much antibiotic it might be worth keeping up with the yoghurt for a while. It can take quite a long time to properly repopulate the gut with good bacteria in humans so I expect that might also be the case with sheep.

Thanks Clydesdale hopper. Unfortunately he has taken a turn for the worse this morning with a high temperature and not interested in feeding from mum. Have given long acting antibiotic and metacam (antibiotics have all been by injection) and more yoghurt.

Back to vet, he could be dehydrated too, due to loose poo x

Thanks for reply hellybee. Lamb now groaning while straining to pass tiny bit of now more yellow runny poo. Back to vet tmrw. Meantime not sure if I should only offer water just now and presume I'll have to tube tonight if still not drinking. Lamb is 3 wks today.  Found some effadryl should I use that?

They can make a bit of noise and fuss when pooing,  I wouldn't use a man made human treatment.  There's homemade recipes on line,  I tend to use rehydion.

Thanks again. Went over last night with home made electrolyte (got recipe on Internet) all set to tube if need be and he got up and had a sook from mum so I left him. Better this morning but still had temp. Vet prescribed synulox injections for 5 days. Tonight lamb had a little bounce and much brighter and drinking more strongly from mum which was lovely to see. Fingers crossed all will be well this time

Thanks folks. Just anxious about turning him and mum out again now as I thought he was fine last time after abiotic so but a couple of days later he got ill again.    Would be hard on both him and me to go through yet another lot of daily jabs.  :fc:  all will be well this time.
