Title: Guinea fowl
Post by: Kimkimmy on April 15, 2016, 06:59:38 pm
I'm thinking of buying a few Guinea Fowl. I have ducks and hens, all completely free range. Would they integrate and most importantly how noisy are they. I have no neighbours but worried they may be annoyingly loud.  Advice appreciated  .  :)

I quite like guinea fowl.  We penned ours for a couple of months before letting them free range and they returned to roost every night and would come to call, although catching one was well-nigh impossible.  I wouldn't keep more than one male as they beat each other up quite severely in the breeding season.  They do call and are very observant, so will sound the alarm for buzzards and so on and send the hens scuttling for cover. Don't expect to get many eggs.  They lay quite well through the summer but wherever they happen to be at the time.  Once mature they're surprisingly hardy.
