Title: Not a great start to lambing!
Post by: waterbuffalofarmer on April 05, 2016, 02:35:55 pm
So far we have had 2 lambs rejected by mums, 1 of which is a first lamber,  both being bottle reared. 1 lamb pulled last night, put them both near the house and theyre both doing well. The ewe which prolapsed decided to lamb this morning, so I cut all the stitches a d watched her. After about half an hour nothing at all was happening. Decided to investigate, tutns out she has ringwomb, first time lamber, lamb presented properly as I could feel the hooves and head. Decided to take her to the professionals as I have never dealt really with ringwomb at all. They took the lambs out, found that the first one was dead, second one was alive. The ewe is currently inside and is on a course of ABs. I cant breed from her again, absoloutely gutted about her as I handreared her myself and it is her first time lambing. She is a two year sheep, the twins were big. The one which made it is absoloutely fine and is a female, we have named her Alice, shes feeding well and is trying to jump out her box. I just hope the rest of lambing goes well, but I dont think that I will be breeding from her lamb either! >:(

Aww, not such a good start but good luck with the bottle feeding. It sounds like Alice is determined to stay alive.
