Title: weaners 11 weeks
Post by: david c on April 03, 2016, 02:54:55 am
My weaners - saddleback / middle white dams by Mangalitsa boar are now 11 weeks. Did the weight calculation on them and approx. 16.8 kg. Is that rubbish growth rate? Looking at a chart on the pig site and they should be about double that?

First ones I've bred so steep learning curve. Mothers were supposedly 14 weeks when I bought them. These are bigger at 11 weeks than their mothers were at "14".  (I suspect they were 8/9 weeks in reality going off their progeny)

Cheers,

David

Just looked at my weigh in sheets for two litters of lops @ 11 weeks they averaged 37kg we don't use the calculator thing we actually weigh them in the crate.

With a Mangalitza boar in the mix I'd expect slow growth.  It is a small slow growing pig.

the mangalitza is a niche market pig. once you cross breed it you are diluting its qualities.

next time try a Meat breed AI on your sows.

or be ruthless and start again from scratch.
