Title: Mastitis

My recently kidded goat has developed mastitis, I've drawn out and tubed her but was thinking of jabbing her to. Would Alamycin do and how much for a goat? I'd give a ewe 5ml but not sure if it's the same for got.....
Will strip and tube for a couple more days aswell

Noroclav is my vet's drug of choice when treating mastitis, I have found in the past that Pen & Strep doesn't do the job anymore.... Wouldn't use Alamycin on mastitis.

She's much better today so will tube twice today and hope it's sorted

If the udder is lumpy after the infection is sorted, regular massaging with uddermint will draw out any lumps.

Also warm, damp cloths applied before stripping may help.

We've a got a goat here who had a bad chest infection - prescribed 2.5 ml of Alamycin (5 days) and anti-inflammatory injections (3 days).
She then developed mastitis after a difficult kidding a few days later, vet said to repeat Alamycin and other thing at the same dose for the same amount of time.
She wasn't eating and not strong, lost the kids.

This is done, she is still being stripped daily. Not long back on her feet and starting to eat etc.  Hates udder cream and massage (this is how we know she's feeling better - by how much she can give me the run around!)

So different circumstances, but if it helps...

I've read that goats need a longer time on antibiotics etc as they absorb drugs differently than other animals. ANd of course, not much is approved for goats..

That's good news Sbom.

MGoM - Geraldine is doing much better now thank you. Was a BIG worry, and we lost three beautiful kids, but at least she is slowly on the mend.
She "babysits" Lily's two and as long as she gets a few bananas and greens, tolerates my cack-handed milking!
