Title: Wanted - beehive and bee keeping equipment
Post by: egglady on April 29, 2010, 11:02:35 pm
I'm doing a bee keeping course and really want to get some bees this year - unfortunately the cost of buying everything new is going to stop me (proably for the forseeable future!).  I'm wondering if anyone has their old hive and stuff they'd be interested in selling me please?  I live in Fife and can travel a reasonable distance.

Many thanks
Laura

Have a look on the Scottish Beekeepers Association site and contact your nearest group. Retiring members are sometimes selling equipment but be careful what you buy so as not to introduce disease. We've bought stuff from Thornes. Dunblane and Stirling Beekeepers do an anual bulk order and get 15%-25% discount.

thanks rosemary - the course i'm doing is through them.  thornes is just up the road from me, but too expensive just now unfortunately.  i thought if i asked on here someone might just be giving up and looking to sell their stuff or else someone might know someone in the situation - time will tell.  would love to get some this year but will be driven by costs.

Hi,
I have a couple of hives standing around. If you are still interested I can have a look. A set with one or two brood boxes and two honey supers should be available. I also have frames but no wax sheets.

Hi,
I have a stand, solid floor, two broodboxes, queen exluder, two supers and inner and outer roof, plus 7 deep frames incl. wired wax sheets, 11 shallow frames with wired wax sheets (that is a full super set), a frame feeder and a mouse guard. That should get you going and you have two brood fnoxes when you have to deal with swarming. And you have all deep frames when you get a 3 frame starter.
PM me for more details.
