Title: Hello from Carmarthenshire
Post by: Amateur hour on March 18, 2016, 11:17:18 am
Hello all,
Have been reading this forum for a long time and finally got round to signing up. We moved to West Wales, just north of St Clears in Oct and have been establishing a veg garden. Just got our first chickens this week and planning on having two weaners soon. Any advice would be welcome as we are total beginners!
Thanks for having us!

Hi and welcome from ceredigion  chickens are a great animal to begin with, very easy to manage. What breed of pig where you thinking of? All the best with everything and if you need any questions answered we would  be happy to help.

We're finding the chickens lots of fun so far. Not sure what kind of pigs to get...we have a bit of woodland at the side of the house that we are planning to keep them in (once it's been properly fenced). Had initially thought tamworths but someone told me the other day they are the ultimate escape artists and not for beginners...any thoughts? We're getting them just for meat for ourselves, mainly bacon and cured salamis etc. as well as joints.

You are probably best looking to see what weaners there are near to you.
We have has OSB's and Gloucester Old Spots. There wasn't much to choose between them but whatever you get they will try to escape so strong fencing is a must.
