Title: weaner vomiting
Post by: david c on March 17, 2016, 01:18:41 am
Just weaned my piglets at 8 weeks old on Saturday. All quite happy, especially their mothers.  Been eating happily for a few weeks. One has been growing slightly slower than the rest and is now vomiting  after itsstartsto eat. He's going backwards weightwise. A friend said to try Gaviscon - tubed him and threw it back up again. Any ideas?

Cheers

Have they had iron?

Have a look in his mouth, I heard of a similar situation where it turned out the pig had a cleft palette. It managed fine with mlk from mum and the problem only became obvious as hard feed was introduced. Worth ruling out.
I'd also check his temp - should be 38.5C - 39.5C

Outdoor so thought no need for iron. Mouth normal. Will give it a wormer and check temperature.
