My friend and I are on our first (but definately not our last!) lot of pigs. We have a couple of berkshires (boys). They are approx 25 weeks old now and I am wondering at what point we should be taking them for slaughter. Anyone offer any advice please?

I would suggest now.
We usually send off our boars at 6 - 7 months
Thanks

I'd agree with that. Send them asap. Berkshires have a reputation for fattiness if allowed to go on beyond 6 months, but the pork is delicious.

the decision is made and they are off on the 25th may! feel quite ok about it but wonder what i'll be like on the day.......

Hiya i know exactly how you feel, mine ar ebooked in for about 6 weeks time now and i am excited because it has been such a great experience, however that will probably change on the morning. :pig:

I always feel a little sad on the day, but its soon gone, just think what a great life they've had and wha yummy pork you'll get back!

Slaughter day for 3 of ours tomorrow. Its never easy. The excitement of the carcasses on Monday will help.
