Title: Hindsight
Post by: Isla on March 09, 2016, 01:03:08 pm
Dear goat keepers,

Thank you so much for sharing all the tips I've found on here:  mineral licks, hay racks, feeding...  If you could go back to when you first started, what advice would you give yourself?

I have read lots of books and articles, visited local goat keepers and think I have bought all the equipment I need for the arrival of my first goats in a couple of weeks.  Two goatlings so alas won't be kidding and milking until next year.  Would be interested in showing them though.  I gather that I could do with an older female to lead the herd, but just can't find any for sale in my area just now.

Goats can reach twice as far as you think they can.

and however long and hard you think about making their space "goat proof" ... they have ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT to think about and test where it isn't!

You'll never have any 'spare' time again.

There'll always be something needs doing and if there isn't a goat will need stroking, talking to or just watching.

And make the goat house twice the size because soon you'll have more goats.
