Title: Hello from Suffolk
Post by: desertmum on March 06, 2016, 06:39:48 pm
Hi - new to all this.  Recently bought a property with 2.5 acres which has two poly tunnels and stables.  Discussions are under way re how much land the horses need vs my small holding plans!

We are picking up 6 ex-battery hens next week - the previous owner has converted the small poly tunnel into a hen run.  We are very excited.

Soil is clay,  so we are building raised beds.  Huge amount of work.

Hoping eventually to have bees, ducks and geese, as well as grow as much of our own veg as possible.  We are taking it slowly.

Looking forward to learning a lot from this site.

Hello to a fellow Suffolk smallholder - lots of info on bees available from the Suffolk beekeeping association. You also have the Suffolk smallholders society & the Norfolk smallholders across the border.

Good luck & enjoy

Thanks for the welcome, finally got 6 ex battery hens who were laying beautifully until the storm!  Veg plots are being dug, strawberry beds done.  Slowly, slowly!
