Title: Moving pregnant ewes
Post by: bloomer on March 04, 2016, 10:59:29 am

Hi

What's the latest in pregnancy I can move ewes?

Trying to leave them on winter grazing as long as possible but need to move them before actual lambing.

Due to start lambing April 6th.

Thanks
Bloomer

It is advised not to move any pregnant animal in last 10% gestation, ie about a fortnight for ewes.
There is an exemption for a farmer moving them a short distance to "improve the conditions of birth" so moving them for lambing can be done any time before.

I don't think there should be an exact time when you shouldn't move them. If they're not going far and they don't get stressed you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks that what I found online and was looking for reassurance they only have to move 2 miles to a better site so can be done slowly in small groups, many thanks
