do Red Kites migrate?
The numbers of buzzards seem pretty constant all year round with George and Mildred sat on 2 of our telephone posts most of the year.
We have had a pair of red kites here for the last 2 weeks but this is unusual.
Oh we did count 9 one afternoon last year but they did not stay around.

From late summer onwards you generally see the youngsters plus parents. Over the winter and into Spring the offspring move off to find their own territory and the males may well hang around for a bit trying to muscle in on an existing territory belonging to an older male they hope to replace.

We seem to have red kites around all year so perhaps you just have some strays

Several pairs of kite were released not far from us a few years ago but we rarely see any at this end of the valley. We have resident buzzards, that are well established so maybe that puts them off but there are buzzards everywhere here. I think it was something like 30 pairs so it was a lot and I am surprised how few I see.
