Title: West Highland Way help - Scottish Tasers
Post by: Kitchen Cottage on March 01, 2016, 09:20:27 am
I am planning to walk the WHW this June.  I am self booking accommodation and have most sorted but, at the moment, the nearest place I have found to Rowardennan what takes dogs is 5 miles away.  The hotel is booked already.  Does anyone know any farm stays or B&B's nearer the walk....

Really looking forward to this and I save a lot by self booking :)

*looks around hopefully* :excited: :excited: :excited:

What stops are you planning so far KC? Is Rowerdennan ish your second night?  If so, where are nights 1 and 3 to be?

looking like
WHW   7 stages
Arrive in Milngavie
Stage 1: Walk to Drymen   19.5km (12 miles)
Stage 2: Walk to Rowardennan   22km (14 miles)
Stage 3: Walk to Inverarnan   22.5km (14 miles)
Stage 4: Walk to Tyndrum   18.5km (11.5 miles)
Stage 5: Walk to Kingshouse   30.5km (19 miles)
Stage 6: Walk to Kinlochleven   14.5km (9 miles)
Stage 7: Walk to Fort William   24.5km (15 miles)
Depart from Fort William

But I am still playing with this.  We are taking an older Westie (and a carry pack for him) and two younger working cocker spaniels :)

Hiya,

That looks like a great plan. Lots of folks try to make it further than Drymen on the first day, and many struggle.

I don't know of any B&Bs around Rowardennan that take dogs though (I take it you won't be geared up for camping or bothying (http://www.mountainbothies.org.uk/bothy-details.asp?bothy_id=70)? There's a great wee bothy (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LQNBeT_ZKys/UgVFfGo6J_I/AAAAAAAAHsE/NGj5S7mSikE/s1600/e.+Rowchoise+%25281%2529.jpg) just North of Rowerdennan.)

Quick thought: If you've found somewhere suitable in Drymen, why not book in there for two nights? That way you can leave most of your gear there and walk from Drymen to Rowerdennan on day 2, before getting a taxi back to Drymen for night 2, and back to Rowardennan again at the start of day 3. I think that's what I'd do!

Cool!  Let me know if you're going to be doing that bit at a weekend, as I may be able to help with transport (can't promise anything at this stage, but you never know).
