Title: Lambing Experience Wanted Central Scotland
Post by: Laurarc on February 15, 2016, 07:18:11 pm
Hello, I am looking to gain some lambing experience in the Central Scotland area (Stirlingshire/Perthshire). I have previous experience but would like more as I hope to study veterinary medicine soon. From Dunblane with own transport.
I would be very grateful if anyone can help! Laura :)

Laura - How long are you looking to do it for?  If its a short period hopefully someone on here may be able to help but if its for a longer stint I'd recommend looking in the Scottish Farmer magazine (issues out weekly on a Friday).  There is usually some adds looking for lambers in there.  Its also available on line.
Hope you get something sorted out.

Hi Laura
I know it's a bit out of your area but someone was advertising online on Aberdeenshire gumtree looking for a lamber. they often offer digs and farmers like having vet students. Also try vets in the area, they may know
Good Luck :-)

It might be worth having a look on farming groups on Facebook, sometimes they advertise. I hope you find what you're looking for soon and do keep us updated on how you get on?

Hi Laura,

Your best bet would be to contact NFU Scotland or the NSA (National Sheep Association). They both have lists of farmers needing lambing help and also keep a list of people that would like experience. I know a lot of farmers around us and up north use this service so hopefully the central region is just as popular.
Unfortunately I think we're a bit far for you in the borders?

Good luck!

Thanks for your messages, I have emailed NFU and will check the Scottish Farmer magazine, unfortunately I am unable to stay away from home as I am also applying for jobs at the moment. I will keep you posted :)

Hi Laura

We have approx. 400ish ewes to lamb this year with a mix of indoor and outdoor lambing.  We are situated on a farm approx. just over an hours drive from Stirling near Dalmally on the West Coast.  Would you be willing to stay on farm, single accommodation and board provided.  We are a young couple, that could provide great character refs. My husband is very patient and a great teacher.  Thanks Bron
