Hi all - thought some of you might be interested in this. I am in France at present. Sun is shining, birds singing and I am sitting with the door open and Little Miss Phoebe asleep on the settee beside me
Last week I went to Sarlat-de-Caneda in the Dordogne for the annual truffle festival. Masses and Masses of black Perigord truffles for sale there, and lots of good truffled street food to try in the market.
There were young oak trees for sale with the roots injected for truffle production. The truffles themselves varied between 800 and 900 euros per kilo - I bought a very small one :)

Wow Sue I am envious. You have sun :sunshine:
You certainly get about. The truffle festival sounds fascinating as does the little tree that you bought.
Its nice to know that Little Miss Phoebe seems to be settled too

It was a very little truffle that I bought. Thought I would mention the trees in case anyone was interested in growing them :) Anyway the truffle was delicious included in several things that I cooked :)

I don't think truffles can be grown over in this country, due to the weather patterns, very wet you know ;D It all sounds lovely wish i was there , the weather over here is shocking :P

WBF, I think you are wrong.
Just a short while ago I was following a van in the Llanelli area that had local truffle hunting advertised in its paintwork.

We had planned to pop down to Sarlat for the festival but ended up making sausages and hams. Leg of pork bought for 1.90 € a kg and shoulder for 1.84 € a kg. we are not keeping pigs this year !!!
Sarlat has a Goose festival coming up with birds marched through the lanes and venders. It is a great town but if you stay over there the food is often poor and the choice limited to duck or duck.

MAK, I stayed near Sarlat a few years ago. I have a friend who has a gite.
I know what you mean about the duck. It was very nice but there is only so much duck you can eat ;D
