Title: What do your health care plans look like?
Post by: EmAbi-Sheep Newbies on January 20, 2016, 11:19:54 pm
Hi

What do your yearly health care plans look like?
We are new to sheep and just wondering if we have things set out correctly for our first year.  :farmer:

We have 4 non breeding ryelands on 4 acres of good grass. Shared with horses.

Thanks

Ours is in two parts -  a wall planner, and a pretty hefty document, which I may have on computer but will have to have a look.

I've PM'd you - we have a flock plan specific to our breeds, our flock and our farm but it might give you some ideas on what to include in your own.  Anyone in need of something to read in order to get to sleep is welcome to PM me with their e:mail address and I'll attach a copy.

Thank you!
We have written one, but seem to have misplaced it, so have written another but afraid we have missed things.  ;D

I use 2 excel spread sheets for all my breeding related critical dates. They allow me to drop in a key date such as when I want to lamb or when I plan to put rams in and they fill in all the critical dates for ram MOT, flushing, vacs, feeding etc. I also have columns for earliest date for vacs and latest (4 to 6 weeks before) and it works out my optimum vac dates for the ewes within that band.

I also use a couple of word tables to plot out cohorts for lambing, feeding ration, worming etc with details of weeks to go and info on previous years lambing ( do they tend to lamb early, have triplets, mismother etc.)

The info is partly for me but also incase I was taken seriously ill and OH had to get the vet out. I know they would have all the info that they need.

I then write vac dates and lambing dates on the calendar

Buffy is there any chance you could share your spread sheet?  I can do basic word processing but when faced with setting up a spreadsheet my brain goes on holiday.  This means I use a scrap of paper to do my calculations then the bit of paper gets tidied up and never seen again.  I am sure I am not the only person so challenged.  Pretty please with a cherry on top.
