Title: Animated emotiwotsits on freeze frame?
Post by: SallyintNorth on January 17, 2016, 10:11:58 pm
Is anyone else finding their animated emotiwotsits are frozen?   ::) - not rolling,  :roflanim: - lying still,  :o - eyes not widening, etc. :yippee: - not jumping!   :notworthy: flat on the floor  :sofa: is just a sofa!

Ah.  I wonder if I've turned something off... I was trying to reduce the obscene amount of downloading that seems to happen, as we are not on unlimited broadband.

[member=1]Dan[/member] please - what might I have turned off that would stop my emotiwotsits doing their thing?  And I presume that turning it back on won't result in additional download?

Someone posted a plugin for popular browsers a while ago that stopped animated gifs animating. I can't find the thread, but that might be it? Or did it happen without your intervention?

Re downloading additional data - no, the file size is the same whether you're seeing them animated or not. And they will almost certainly be cached by your browser, so probably won't be counting against your data allowance.

Neither, I think.

I did spend some time twiddling with Internet options after I went over my broadband limit in a month when I couldn't see any reason why I would have done.  So I turned off things I could find that looked as if they downloaded without my say-so.

I just thought you might know, off the top of your head, which internet option would stop gifs jumping about.  If not, I'll just have to go through all the ones that look like they might be it and change their settings until I find the one.

It's most likely a browser option, so which browser / OS are you using?

Ah, yes, it would help you to tell you that, wouldn't it.   :dunce:

I can't get any emotithingys at all since Microsoft made important updates. I find this a bit of a bind being reluctant to post things as they may be taken the wrong way, so to speak.

There are a couple of support notes for IE11 related to animated gifs:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2974841 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2974841)
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3004241 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3004241)

If neither of these sort it, it might be this setting under Tools> Internet Options> Advanced (or similar):
