Title: Anyone with Farmers & Mercantile?
Post by: Marches Farmer on January 12, 2016, 12:32:40 pm
Thinking of switching from insuring with the NFU.  Got a good quote from F&M but be interested iifanyone has had to claim and what their experience was.  NFu was excellent on the one occasion we've had to claim but the cost has soared in recent years.

Watching this as our insurance is due in a couple of months. Because of our set up here, we have house and farm insurancewith NFUM, but they are bloody expensive. But they do have a good reputaion for settling, although I have no experience of that (thankfully).

I'm hoping that they will have a proper smallholders policy by the time wecome to renew but otherwise, I'll be looking at alternatives like F&M

Having re-read the policies (thoroughly recommended if you're having trouble getting to sleep) we've decided to give F&M a try.  When challenged NFU reduced the premium by £120 (in view of our excellent claims record!) but are still 35% more expensive than F&M (it's an AXA policy and they're the brokers).  I may regret this in the future but I can't see how I can justify spending so much more on what is essentially the same cover.
