Title: Christmas competition at my spinning group
Post by: Bionic on January 04, 2016, 01:51:21 pm
Each year we have a christmas challenge where members produce something to be judged at our christmas lunch.

This year I was tasked with getting fibre for the challenge. I bought prepared Falkland Polworth and some hand dyed silk cocoons.

As not everyone at the group spins I had to make the challenge rules simple to include all abilities and crafts.

Everyone had 100g of Polworth and a handful of cocoons (they were different colours and members could choose what they wanted)

The rules were that some Polworth and some cocoon had to be used in the article but not everything had to be used. There could be the addition of anything else you wanted too.
The article could be spun, felted, knitted, woven etc.....

This is my finished article which I am pleased to say won first prize.

I left the underbelly the original colour but dyed and blended the other fibres to try to make it realistic, and added horse hair whiskers

It is indeed.  The shading from belly to body fur works really well.  :trophy:

Wow! Sally, that's wonderful. I was at the meeting when you told everyone what you had got for them to use and I wondered what sort of things people would come up with.

Lesley, there were a couple of felted pictures, 2 scarves, one which had used the silk cocoon to embroider a pattern the other one had spun the polworth and silk cocoon together.

There was a little spun and knitted jacket for the ladies 8 year old granddaughter, a babies hat, a finely spun and knitted little shawl.

The little jacket came second.

Shouldn't that be 'in the felt'?
