Title: Peg looming
Post by: Rosemary on December 31, 2015, 08:54:45 pm
I've just bought a peg loom. Bought one years ago never used it now I can't find it  ::)

Can anyone tell me what to buy as a warp yarn or thread? Or at this stage, does it really matter?

Going to use raw fleece because I've got loads, then wash it once it's woven.

Brilliant Rosemary!   :excited: :excited: :weave:

I was advised to use cotton - parcel string type cotton.

Pics and progress reports please!

I use washed and partially felted fleece or yarn.

You can buy actual warping cotton. Try https://www.handweavers.co.uk/shop/warps.pdf (https://www.handweavers.co.uk/shop/warps.pdf) and there are plenty more places if you google warping cotton.

What do you use for the warp, Buffy?

I either use a yarn that blends with the natural fleece such as Sirdar Super Snuggly or I use a contrasting yarn and make a feature of it. If I am using a fancy scarf yarn like Cha Cha Cha I either use more of the same or a 2 or 4 ply in the same colour.

I teach classes sometimes with looms made by OH and beginners can make cushion covers or scarves. I also teach how to make circular or semi circular shapes on the loom.
