I don't see this TV series mentioned here. Does no-one watch it? Is no-one an addict? At first I thought it was a dungeons and dragons type thing so I avoided it, but now I'm reading book 1 and watching the first season and loving it. All apart from the wigs, which are dire.
Any other takers?

Very violent and with fairly graphic sex scenes but absolutely fabulous. I'd read the first four books so the first four series were very slightly frustrating because I was continually trying to remember what happened next. Series five I hadn't read the book and I enjoyed it even more. Can't wait for series six and seven but have no idea how he's going to tie up the many, many plot lines.

LOVE it!!
However I cannot get my head round the books. I can usually read anything but I keep picking it up and putting it down as I can't seem to get lost in the books.
-
Yes, the book flits around a lot which makes it harder to follow. I shan't read the rest, even if the kindle versions weren't so dear, but just concentrate on the DVDs. The sex scenes are not in the book, as far as I've got so far anyway. I don't really notice them much on screen, or the violence, as I just get on with my spinning or peel an orange :roflanim:
Who is your favourite character? Mine are Arya and Tyrion.

My brother and I watched one episode and where completely horrified, in my opinion a disgusting series. A triple x rated one I believe. Never allowed in my house and never will be, give me the musketeers and sherlock any day. ;D
-
My granddaughter is called Aria. No guessing where the name came from lol
-
Tyrion (we considered calling Bryn Tyrion) and Daenerys. And Jon Snow, even though he knows nothing ;D
-
I've never seen it or read any of the books.
Fred Macaulay summed the series up simply as........'Good bit, bad bit, sex bit, battle'.

To quote Fred " Feckin' Boo".
It's much better than that. The books are great and the series really does them justice, whihc can't have been easy. Brilliant production values. And a great story. You never know whe are the bad guys and who are the good guys. It's very clever.

When do the dragons come in? That's the real point for me.

Series two I think. The eggs at least.

I really like Tyrion but also Bronn. I hated Reek but he may have just redeemed himself :) Sansa drives me mad and I'm not sure I like how dark Arya is getting.
Jon Snow   haha

If you want to see dragons why not watch the whole Merlin series on Netflix? I remember when it was out I was addicted. ;D

I'm waiting for the entire Anne McCaffrey series of books to be made into films. Those are the best dragons ever.
I discovered the GoT dragons tonight - right at the start of season 2 and they've just hatched
Yes Bronn is excellent - just needs to raise an eyebrow. He was also the sidekick on that Victorian police thing - something street ::)

Ripper Street? I didn't recognise the actor as Jerome Flynn. He's really good. Yes, one of my favourites. But the characters are so complex - you think someone is bad but then they change or vice versa. Dan hates the Petyr Baelish character but I don't. I know he's slimy but I kind of like him. And I like Varys.
-
Ripper street, that's the one. He's much better in GoT. We always spend many happy hours trying to identify actors we've seen as other characters when we watch anything on TV ::)

Guys, you have all sorted out my new year reading - a second read through the novels, then possibly watching the box set ( we have borrowed it from daughters boyfriend, he has a serious DVD addiction!). I am concerned we will never find out what happens in the end, the last installment(s) seem slow in being finished and published.
-
Take myadvice - don't read the books before watching the series. I spent ages thinking "now what happens next". I enjoyed series five best because I hadn't read the book. Although it might be OK if you have JUST read them or if you have a better memory than me :)
Series 6 is out in April I think and there will be a series seven, I believe.
-
love the books and the show-to the point where I have the blu ray box sets :D

I disagree (there's a surprise :D ) - read the books before watching any of the TV series, your imagination will produce an even much richer environment and more rounded characters than you'll see on screen. IMHO. ;)

I have read the books once, and feel I need to refresh my memory about the huge numbers of characters etc before embarking on watching the TV series. I think they are books that will benefit from a second read, there is just so much that happens.

Oh Dan, now I'm swithering - do I? don't I? I have found that by reading book one, whenever the plot line in the film is a bit different from the book, then I'm thinking "no, that's not what happened". On the other hand it's easier to take in the story as a whole if you've already read it. ??? ??? ??? :tired:
But what about the direwolves for favourite characters? Having kept a succession of Irish Wolfhounds and their crosses I'm very much into giant dogs. I loved Nymeria and am hoping she comes trotting back into the picture just in time to save the day.........
