hi everyone
we have a four year old ewe with twin ewe lambs just 4 weeks old who has developed mastitis ??? we are puzzled as to why she could have developed it at this stage and wonder if anyone had any tips we know we are going to have to fetch them home and supplement them with milk and creep for a while but are bitterly disappointed wondering what if anything we could have done to avoid it?
Many thanks in anticipation

Quite common to get mastitis at this stage. Could be just some dirt got into the teat or damage caused by rough lambs, or just a scratch from a thistle.
Massive dose of antibiotics and cross your fingers!

Oh, and cull her out if you can

Thank you for the constructive reply FF we've done the large dose of antibiotic and hope to see an improvement for her she's really quite unhappy it's comforting to know....however cold that comfort is.......that its not necessarily something that could have been avoided ::)

Try to milk out the offending teat aswell as this helps to remove the manky stuff and clear the infection faster - also don't forget to do a repeat does of the jab particularly if she has been a bit gammy (possibly even three doses of the long acting stuff every three days)
