Title: Christmas Turkey needed?
Post by: Ghdp on December 16, 2015, 07:17:59 pm
Now I know this is late but does anyone still have a medium sized organic turkey. Can collect within 25-30 from Denbigh?

I have an August 2015 Narragansett turkey stag but am a bit further than you'd like, in NE Herefordshire.  We're not "officially" organic, but we don't feed any antibiotics or growth promoters, just standard layers pellets.

Thanks MF. I Think I need to work out how I could factor it that  sort of journey but I am possibly in Northampton on 23.12.15 so wondering if I could collect on the way home! How big might it turn out??

Ghdp,

my local auction centre has its Christmas bird auction this Sat so I'm guessing that your local livestock mart does too. Failing that the supermarkets, farmers markets and online suppliers will all have organic birds.

Would that be York, Buffy?

Have you got aything entered?

I took some spares once and I bought there a couple of years ago when I had some of my own taken by a fox (or people) but they never seem to say if they're free-range/organic etc

Yes it would be Hex,

no I havent got any entered. I only had a few this year and they went to local smallholders who needed companions for lonely stags or to meet the demands of the dining table. Mine were heritage too so slower maturing.

I dont do organic though, only free range. So if you are keen to know exactly what goes into your bird, you would be mortified by what my lot snack on. ;D  Worms, dirt, stuff thrown out for the birds, pig feed etc ::)

I'm getting mine from my neighbour who does free range commercials and finishes them on the wheat from nextdoors so its all very local. He does small ones and larger strains in smallish numbers. About 15 mins from York Auction centre so if you want the number please pm me.
