Title: Breeding Cockerel wanted - Scottish Borders
Post by: Anke on November 30, 2015, 03:43:29 pm
I need a new cockerel for my 9 hens (this years hatch) - any large breed considered, but preferably either Maran (French Copper or Cuckoo), RIR or LS. I can travel within reason, but given the time of year would prefer not to have to go too far. I would prefer a 2015 hatch, but a quiet 2014 would also be acceptable.

Just in case someone has one that may otherwise be Xmas dinner and is too nice for it really...

I normally pay in honey for my cockerels...

Herefordshire's probably a bit too far for you (unless you know someone heading this way) but I have an excellent Speckled Sussex and an equally good Blue Laced Wyandotte - both 2015 birds.  Unvaccinated, well handled and from a closed flock.

Sorry, just slightly out of range I am afraid...

Not sure if it's any good or if your coming down a bit closer but I have a blue splash Maran , he is about a year old and no aggression in him at all. Only rehoming him as need to put a different cockerel into the big shed. If your coming to Carlisle or Hexham I could meet you with him

Sounds good, I will be coming down to Hexham sometime next week to pick up dairy nuts anyway. Will pm for further discussion.

And if anyone in Devon is in need of a Copper or Cuckoo Maran (or "Meringue" as my grandson calls them" you will be welcome to one (also a Crested Legbar)
