I thought I'd update folks on my effort to get my geese laying and sitting. By now we took away the first 8 eggs and they have laid another 7 in a new nest. They seem to make no effort to sit on them so I bought a novital 24 incubator - the automatic turning version with a motor, and put 6 eggs in. Instructions are directly translated from Italian and although the translation is amusing - does not give specific detail. has anyone experience of using one? I'm not sure if the moving floor is actually turning the eggs much. I think that the larger diameter of goose eggs compared with hen eggs results in them turning less - a bit like gears of a bike. So to be sure I am turning them manually as well once a day. Anyway it says in the instructions that with goose eggs the incubator should be opened and let to cool once daily. I've filled the well below the egg floor with water as instructed by I've read that some people actually wet the eggs daily with a fine mist or a wet sponge - any views?

I have just yesterday and today hatched 2 geese eggs from the incubator. Let the machine do all the work, my one has auto turning so I don't interfere. After 10 days I spray the eggs with room temperature water, up until 2 days before they are due to hatch. The eggs can only be left out for 15 minutes but it is important not to leave the lid off the incubator as that would effect the temperature - making it too cold. Hope this helps a bit, good luck.
