Title: Love Charity Shops?
Post by: little blue on April 16, 2010, 10:35:29 pm
I do!

Got two of those serving dish thingies with two sides, which are perfect for feeding the hens pellets and grit so they can't tip them over.
Last week, a bowl for rabbit food, books (my town library has been shut for MONTHS for refurbishment, and I'm suffering withdrawal) and a lovely chicken shaped jug

The £1 rail keeps me and my o/h in 'gardening shirts'

Even got a hamster cage with all the accessories, ready for either baby chicks, guinea pigs or rabbits - whichever comes first!

And everybody benefits... my pocket, our animals, the people or charity the shop is for.
 :)

!! I LOVE charity shops...If you gave me some £'s...I would have MUCH more fun spending in charity shops than in any other ones. I have looked into why and I think it is because I am anti establishment...I hate to be controlled!! I love to trawl through crap to find my little treasure!!!! This is a big house and almost ALL the stuff in it is second hand or pre loved (like me!!)

Up here we have whats called a Scrapstore. A giant charity shop for furniture and household goods. I have bought an old dresser style shelving and cupboard affair for thirty quid to a miriad of stuff for the polytunnel and garden. Most of our croft/ work clothes are from the smaller ones. It is one thing that Shetland does not lack...charity shops.

Kath and I like a good look round and we used to go to car boot sales but I'm afraid many of them are just places to get cheap bacca and booze CD's and DVD's.Mind you Trading Standards Officers has tided up Hemswell in a big way.If any of you lasses get to Horncastle There is several good junk shops. They have some really nice stuff in the window but some really good junk out back and sensibly priced as well.We can easily spend a good afternoon and still buy little. The owner of one told me his stuff mainly comes from house clearance. If there is something good he puts it in the window if it's Bric a Brac it's out back under the sheds and now and again I have a skip and dump stuff thats not likely to sell.He told me he took 3 cwt of cutlery to the scrap yard.No one wanted any of it and he said I needed the space so it was one of the things that went It's a lot of fun we think and do so enjoy it ;D ;D :farmer:

Have to say I love them too. Most of my showing gear for the ponies I get from our local one and as its cheap way of buying showing clothes i change them every season. Also get blankets for pet beds, books, and toys for the grandchildren. when i am finished with what i have bought back it goes to the shop to be sold again.

I love charity shops, they are great for everything and are far more interesting than traipsing round all the normal stores.

I have so many designer outfits from charity shops, funny isn't it, I too am much more excited about trawling the charity shops, used to love the BIG Salvation Army furniture shop in Glasgow, just off Byres road, sometimes you would see some stunning furniture and usually no more than £30, if anyone goes, take a van although they deliver but not this far 33 miles away!!! I wanted to go around them with someone and both have £10 and see who gets the most value for money or just show what you got!!! (I'll be back in the black soon Anne so how about it?)

Yes, Sandy and I have a great day out when we go round the charity sops in Alloa.  Last count there were six I think.  A bit busy this week, but maybe next week.  We get some great bargains, and being an accountant and economist I can't resist that!

I have been to the animal sanctuary charity shop today - got my mum a Catherine Cookson book. Thought I had got them all, but was so pleased to find one she definitely has not had.  Its incredibly cheap in there.  Pick up lots of towels which are sold as dog towels, but they are in good condition. Use them for the ponies when at shows.  Also get cheap blankets for the dogs to lie on.

I get a buzz from my finds in this shop!!!

I love the old drawers too - good for the hens, an also my cats like them to sleep in.

I have seens some really well to do people in charity shops.......with their designer bags to put their goodies in.  Well, they may bump into a neighbour on the way back to their house, and it will look better having been designer shopping at a posh shop.

I have got a beautiful landscap picture for £4.56 coz that was all the change i had and i bartered down from £6.50 - is that wrong iin a charity shop?????? ???
Also my wife picked up some embroided silks about A4 in size and framed, which are lovely but best of all my mum gave me her collection of Silvac Facepots and they go for next to nothing in a charity shop compared to £30+ on flea-bay!
Love them and even little Jess always gets a couple of books she wants, everyone is a winner.

But then i do my bit by sticking clothes etc in the Sally Army/ Red Cross clothes bin, and so the wheel turns
