Title: Killing chickens/ducks in County Antrim
Post by: ballycastleAlex on November 16, 2015, 05:54:57 pm
I would like to start keeping some chickens and ducks to eat myself and in the future maybe sell at Farmers markets. Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a mobile abbatoir in County Antrim?  I don't think...in fact I know I don't have the guts to do it myself.  Ideally I would like someone to come to kill them on site.  Just moved to Ballycastle from Sussex so if there are any free range/organic chicken experts out there in NI it would be great to pick your brains on a range of things!! Thanks,  Alex

Hi Alex

I have a good friend in Co Tyrone. I know that's not close but I've pm'd him as he might be able to help point you in the right direction :)

Hiya

He's suggested contacting DARD and seeing if they can help you. He doesn't know of anyone who travels.
I wonder if an advert in local feed store might yield results too - someone willing to do it for you in return for a favor or some cash :)

Thanks Nutterly! I'll contact DARD and a note in a feed store sounds like a good idea. I don't suppose you know any good breeders of Hubbard, Sasso or Light Sussex? Don't mind travelling to get quality chicks. looking to get going with this in early Spring. Thanks! Alex

No sorry! But if you find some let me know as I'd like some of those breeds :D

Only Sasso person I know is based in England but may send eggs?
