When asked what he would like for Christmas, my Dad (who is a bit more tech savvy than I!) said he'd like a walking app he can use on his phone/tablet.
I have tried doing some Google searches to see which would suit his needs
He'd like to be able to use OS maps 1:25000 which would know where he is using GPS rather than relying on a internet connection (which is unlikely to be available most places he walks)
It is an 'android' device (not iPhone/iPad). Samsung if that makes a difference.
He was thinking of some kind of free app where you buy the OS maps as extra for certain regions. He can then let us know which region he would like for his next b'day pressie etc.
It would be nice if the app could save a route so that he could revisit is.
Does this sort of thing actually exist?

Google 'Map my walk' that might be what he wants. Also teh British Heart Foundation have a few on their website - www.bhf.org.uk (http://www.bhf.org.uk)

Sounds like the Ordnance Survey are making their maps into interactive mobile apps linky (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sponsored/travel/walking-routes/11707930/os-mobile-maps.html)
