Title: Feeding
Post by: Paulie on November 06, 2015, 10:23:14 am
Hi can anyone advise if I should or shouldn't be feeding my 2 dexters. They are looking very well, have plenty of grass and ad lib hay and a general purpose lick bucket. Both have calves at foot but are unfortunately empty this year, calves are 7 and 4 months old.

I think you have answered your own question - They are looking well. They only need ad lib hay minerals over winter grass is starting to drop off with us now so we are now giving bales. Only need extra feed if they are on the thin side

We feed ours straw and a licky bucket over the winter. They get a wee bit hay am and pm and adlib straw. If they look thin, I up the hay. Hopefully they are back in calf and their current calves, born May, will be weaned this month.
