Hello!
My name is Sharon and I live in South Lanarkshire. I stumbled across this site while researching hens and thought it looked like an interesting place to get to know some likeminded people!

Hello from me in South Lanarkshire
I'm in the Lesmahagow area and have some Kune kune pigs and a couple of chickens (but lots of plans ;))
Where are you ? and do you have any livestock ? (sorry, I'm SO nosey !)
If you fancy getting 'hands on' for some chicken experience, you're more than welcome to visit.
Look forward to hearing more from you,
Karen x

Hi Karen,
I am near Lanark, we don't have a lot of land at our home so am trying to work out if we can have some! No livestock! Although one day......

Hiya Sharon,
For chickens (depending on how many you want ;)) a back garden is plenty. My two are currently in a 6x6 run with a 6x4 shed on the side - they'd been kept this way for a year before I got them -but I'm hoping to expand the run to about 16 x 6, or bigger if I can convince the other half to give up more of the garden, so that I can up my numbers to 3 or 4. But mine is a fixed run, if you had a moveable run so that you could give them fresh ground every few months I don't think you'd need it to be quite as big (especially if you look at the omellet egglus)
For pigs and stuff you'd really need a minimum of an acre. If you want to pop up for a visit anytime to see the set up for my chooks or give the pigs a scratch feel free to pm me and I'll give you directions ;D

Thank you all! Hello all!
Bamford, I come from near the Dava Moor myself...I am assuming it's the same place you are talking about. My m&d still live there. Near Forres.
Karen, yes please! I am busy this week but will contact you.
I am hoping to get a bit of time to read some more of the site tonight. I am spending time with a beekeeper, have some veggies, but my big thing is that I have a large area of wood which I am hoping to regenerate, live on and grow on a larger scale! It will take a long time, but I am excited!
I had a sawmill come to arrange to cut it down with FC permission but would welcome anyone else who is a sawmill owner to get in touch!

Hi and welcome from me too

Sharon - we have a smallholders association in Central Scotland - check www.smallholders.info and come and join us - we have a Committee meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) and the rest of this year's programme should be on the website soon after that. £10 a year membership fee, discounts being sought from suppliers at the moment for members as well as other benefits.

Hey there
I live in West Lothian, close to the town of Livingston, nice to meet you, I was linked this site so decided to check it out, and glad I did cause it's full of rather interesting folks.
Growing all my own edibles, hoping one day room provided that I can get a couple of chickens, as my son has special needs and not only would love them and enjoy helping with them but would adore being able to go and get himself an egg when the notion took him, he loves eggs so I am guessing that could become a regular thing lol
Brightest Blessings
