Title: Silkies
Post by: laurelrus on October 20, 2015, 10:48:54 am
Hi,
We would like to get some Silkies, we have one very elderly buff hen left who is in with our other chickens now.
I'm finding it hard to find any although I know it's late in the year and I'm happy to wait till spring but if anyone here breeds them and has any available I'd be happy to hear from them!
Thanks very much.

I know a breeder of LF black silkies in Norfolk? Not sure what stock she'd have for sale but could ask.

Ross-on-Wye Autumn rare breeds poultry sale is on in early November - they often have a good selection of Silkies on offer.

Iff you won't silkies do the hard work and get from a good breeder they are fantastic birds and worth the work. IM breeding silkies for 2016 and I'm sourcing stock eggs are an opsion. The sales don't have the proper breed standard.

I'm still looking for a couple of silkie bantam hens. When you don't want them you're tripping over them, now I do, I've been looking for weeks and can't find any!

I got mine from an ebay seller (I can look up who if you are interested) and they were really good silkies. Decent enough to have exhibited and when I downsized someone took some to do just that.
Hatch rate was 100% and I had them sent across to Jersey where they sat in the post office all weekend too.

Hatching eggs but I presume you could get live birds too if you asked?

devonlady I have found a few breeders who have a range of colours. I've decided to wait until spring now but if you'd like the details I'd be happy to pass them on  :chook:

Hi - I have various Silkie bantams (blue/ white/ black. lavender and cuckoo) and the little blue hen has just sat down on some eggs - they will be mixed colours because it was not intended but I will gladly let you know if anything develops.  Sallyanne
