Aside from the annual Daily Express scaremongering type headlines about the "worst winter EVER" about to descend upon us......what's anyone else's thoughts?
I follow Highland Weather on Facebook and while he admits he's no professional Meteorologist, he does think there may be an element of truth in this years headlines, don't ask me to explain his theory but it's going to be COLD and not as wet and windy as previous winters which to me is good news I suppose.
Anyone else have any clue as to what Winter is going to bring?

I haven't the foggiest on what it will bring I'm afraid, although a colleague of mine has a customer who is a bit of a weather buff and he recons that its doing to be colder than normal and its all due to the currents etc.
As long as its really cold and dry I'm happy :excited:
Some snow would be good too though ;D

Cold I can handle, wet and snowy I can't. Stops me getting about! Gary is usually pretty good on the weather(Victorian Farmer?)

I must admit that this year hasn't been completely oojah come spiff, but as for the worst winter I would say NO. Granted we're probably in for a cold, maybe even hardish winter, but i think it may be exaggerated rather a bit.

My take on this winter is firstly we have 7 frosts and minus 5 Friday. So it is cooling dawn fast. Last season it was November before the cool dawn. So I will say colder November December and January I don't see snow till 2016 so this will suit the ground and the animals. So high pressure back the stormer end to October I don't see in all a proper winter. Have a nice day

I have written a few articles based on Dave Kings weather without technology. Despite the early arrival of the first Bewick Swan from Russia the forecast looks similar to last year for us in East Yorkshire at least.
Daves website is an interesting read but no sign of any extremes on the cards.

I prepare for the worst and usually I get a nice surprise - but if I don't, well that's our Earth and her vagaries.
I start to fill the store cupboards about now, and we have plenty of hay for the sheep should they be out of grass.
:sunshine: :raining: :cold: :snowman: :gloomy: :sunshine: it's just winter.

We've had a "proper" Autumn here in the Marches - mist some mornings, colder at night but mild and quite calm otherwise. I believe the Jet Stream is presently south of where it would normally be, which means we may get the usual weather for Yorkshire unless the Jet Stream moves again. We always go into Winter with at least six weeks' feed for us and the stock in store and a full wood stack - that's how long it took for the snow to melt in the Winter of 1946/47, which is legendary in these parts ..... "the snow were so high you could touch the telegraph wires ...."

I'll just prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Dry and cold is good.

Well I'm still waiting for the hottest summer in years we were predicted 6 months ago!!! :innocent:

I try very hard not to think about winter weather. The last heavy snow we had left me house bound for ten days, not even able to get out to my goats. OH had to do all the feeding and bring the milker in to me for milking.

Here in Scotland I can give you all two bits of insightfull knowledge. We will have some weather and it will last all year!!!

dreading it....

One thing's for sure. The forecasters don't know what's going to happen next week, so how can they possibly predict what might happen in several months time?

severe gales forecast for us this Thursday ::)
and so it begins......
