Title: Hello from Moray

Hello

Just joined the forum, although I've been visiting the site for a good wee while.

Based in Morayshire, we live offgrid on 15 acres.  This year we have mainly been concentrating on getting settled in. 

Livestock wise we have six sheep (one tup off to be slaughtered next week....first time at this so very nervous.)

A mixture of poultry including Light Sussex chickens, a couple of Bantams, two roman geese, several muscovey ducks as well as Khaki Campbells and Cherry Valleys and a female bronze turkey that keeps roosting in trees and keeping me awake at night worrying about her.

We also have a welsh section C pony that is backed for riding, and next year will be introduced to driving and logging. 

I've been working on establishing a vegetable garden, planting lots of fruit bushes and a 1000 saplings.

Inbetween this we are trying to build a sustainable off grid house, whilst living in a static caravan...we hope to be in the house by Christmas.

Currently I am looking for a ram to go in with the girls in November - I've posted about this in more detail in the Sheep section. 

Anyone local who doesn't mind me picking their brains would be great!

Welcome from Dunecht. Loads of tup sales yet Thainstone / Huntly for commercial breeds, if you are after a shetland you would easily get some lovely unregistered shetland tups of the boat at thainstone, I've done that before when I had shetland's all direct from Shetland beautiful coloured fleeces. If you are after a registered shetland hopefully someone can help you on here.

Hello and welcome from Devon. I've been sending animals off for slaughter for forty plus years and still get guts-ache every time. When I don't will be the time to become a vegan! Good luck with your venture.

Good luck with your holding - sounds great.

We're near Forres and keep a herd of Shetland cattle.

Ask if you need any info on the area/marts/abattoirs/butchers or 'stuff'.
