Is a Khaki Campbell a good laying duck??? I have got a Crested call drake in with her but have had no egg's yet. . . :'( . . . Is there anythin i can do to encourage her??? Thanks. :chook:

Khaki CAmpbells are the best! No idea about any others.

300+ eggs per year... More than most purebreed chickens so yes, pretty good.
-
WOW! thats gud!

I have a KC Mum and two daughters, the girls lay every day, Mum lays 2 days out of three - at 8 years old! I also have a Swedish Blue drake but don't often see him working so haven't hatched any, wonder what they lay like? Anybody know - obviously they'd be cross Khaki/Swedish

Mine had a very long winter break this year (can't blame them!), but once they get going it's near one a day!
There are quite a few factors - which feed, is she freeranging (if yes, she might be nesting outside), how old is she, could she be getting too much attention from the boy (if yes, get some more girls!)? :&>

I have had her for a week and she is a year old. She is in with my drake they have a large run and a nice size hutch (which can fit 5 birds in). They have a huge paddling pool. I feed them pellets and corn and i throw them a hand full of corn on ythe floor every morning because i have been told they enjoy searching on the floor for it. But i have still not yet had an egg from her. Am i doing somthing wrong or missing somthing out???

It may take her a week or two to settle in and become comfortable with her surroundings. We've taken on chickens who've layed the same day we got them and others who've taken over a month. It's probably nothing you're doing, some just take a little longer to settle than others.

Thanks for that info, it has put my mind at rest. Just someone told me if she is not laying she might be unhappy. . . And i really don't want that.

Khaki Campbell are the next best laying ducks! White Campbells will beat them with Indian Runners coming a close third!!
-
Agreed. My white campbell sometimes laid twice a day!

Don't worry if you only had her for a week. She'll relax eventually! Try putting a fake egg (ceramic, marble, hard boiled white egg, golfball) into the nesting box. It might trigger the laying pattern and she'll be more likely to lay hers next to it (works 70% with mine), saving you from searching all over the place. :&>

I will put a fake egg in her nesting box and see if it works. Thanks for the help, will let you know tomorrow if she lays or not.
