I have read alot on the forum about diet and it's influence on egg laying.
I know that day length has alot to do with it
What other factors influence egg laying?
Phase of the moon?
Weather?
Curious

PS Our three girls are coming along fine and have a routine and are getting easier to handle day by day. Today one ate off my hand and they don't struggle now when I put them up on the roost at night.

Glad you're enjoying your girls Suzie. I don't see much difference in egg laying except the light and the weather. Laying virtually stops when the dark nights come in and the cold sets in. I feed the same all year round with a bit extra porridge and vitamins in winter. Mine are ex batts so I like to spoil them - compensate for their rough upbringing ;D ;D ;D
-
pest burden can have a impact but its mainly down to light and the molt.
-
mine are spoilt too and we try to keep the nest boxes dark and quiet so as to avoid stress which I believe can affect laying.
I did read that not letting them get too fat on scraps will help keep them laying well (she says, making porridge for mine because its a bit nippy out ;D )

Breed, age, day length, moult, nutrition, weather, pests and diseases. That's all, I think ;D
-
and stress - after moving house and during storms I don't get as many, if the boys are bothering them too much I get them later in the day when they can escape to their house to have a quitet moment :chook:

Yes - we've had a couple of days of blizzards here during the week so that might be it.
