Title: flubenvet
Post by: langdon on April 01, 2010, 07:41:19 pm
got flubenvet yesturday and started the 7 day treatment.
im following the instructions but the amount that it says to give daily
seems to be a very small dosage when mixed in with food.
ive reduced the amount of pellet feed while doing this.
we got 10 birds to treat.
has anyone else who used this befor thought the same thing e.g. dosage seems really small compare to amount of chuck needed to be treated?
and is it possible to see change if any. :chook:

I too thought that the amount of flubenvet to food ratio appeared strange.  I'm very new to this so feel I can offer no advice but I did as it said and that together perhaps with the Tylan administered appears to have perked my girlies up no end. First 'proper' egg today and certainly happier hens with more 'normal' poos! :)

Yes it is a small amount, if I can remember I think it works out a teaspoon of flubenvet per 4 kilo of feed!  I weigh out into a large bucket, pour in some veg oil, mix it well then add the flubenvet, the oil helps it stick to the feed. I make up enough to last the week, hope this helps!

I felt the same, but had seen that idea about mixing with oil and pellets so it worked fine.  Don't worry, it's absolutely right - don't need much of it.

just out of interest, what would happen if they had too much? (panicking a bit now...) my maths was never good and have tried my best to get this dosage right over 7 days  :o

probably bad squirts. but like any drug it could kill. my brother in law was overdosed when he was a kid with the threadworm stuff he still has bad gut problems. were lucky we use a 100kg in 5 days so its dead easy.

you dont as in use the veg oil?

but i noticed alot of the powder somehow finds it way down to the bottom of the feeder.
my wife thought i put in to much of thge stuff, till i told her that it just fell through the pellets
as the chucks were eaten.
how do you prevent this from happening, as i dont want to be wasting the stuff.

I definitely used oil, and mixed it to a sort of paste to then mix in with the pellets.  (I crushed up some pellets too and mixed that in first)
