Title: minitures
Post by: harry on April 01, 2010, 05:05:31 pm
i went to an auction wednesday and saw 2 miniture bantams they were about pigeon size fully grown, thought they might make a good pet for a child... how well do they lay, are the eggs bigger than quail eggs. these 2 were white cocks and someone had dyed one pink and one blue they looked good. especialy the pink cock when he crowed.  anyone keep these?

A work colleague has just started collecting and breeding these. They are no where as hardy as your normal banty and se has had them in a heated shed during the winter. They are very tame and quiet and she seems to be doing well with them. She haatched them from eggs bought on ebay.

OMG a pink cock, whatever next lol!! We have pekin hens as pets in the garden which lay (when they feel like it, very occasionally if they are in very good moods) small white eggs although larger than quails. They are very pretty little birds which are great roaming around the garden and do not do too much damage in flower beds / lawns etc. However for our eggs we have a mixture of hens to give us a variety of egg colours, legbars, marans, light sussex etc. However if I was going to recommend a pet for the kids it would have to be exbats every time.......... So much friendlier and happy to be picked up and cuddled all day!  :D

How can you inject an egg with dye?  The embryo would die from being opened wouldn't it?
